About High Point University

High Point University is a private liberal arts university located in High Point, also known as the Furniture Capital of the World, which is a city, located in the Piedmont Triad region, with a population estimated at a number of more than 100 000 inhabitants, during the 2008 census, fact which makes it the 8th largest municipality in North Carolina. High Point is the only city in the state which extends into 4 counties, most of the city being located in Guilford County, with portions spilling into neighboring Randolph, Davidson, and Forsyth counties.

High Point University was founded in 1924, first starting as High Point College, officially adopting its current name in October, 1991, to better reflect its mission, transformation which was made possible by the action of the Board of Trustees. The institution offers its students various educational programs and degrees through the following 5 schools and colleges: College of Arts & Science, Earl N. Phillips School of Business, Evening Degree Program, Norcross Graduate School and School of Education.

The university’s athletic teams are known as the High Point Panthers, who compete in 14 varsity sports, in NCAA’s Division I Big South Conference, including in baseball, basketball, golf, cross country and volleyball, the primary athletic facilities at High Point University being the Millis Center (basketball, volleyball), Vert Stadium (soccer and track) and Williard Stadium (baseball).
